Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation raises questions over Communities First

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 10th Jul 2008

Commenting on the release of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2008 last night,

Eleanor Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales and spokesperson for Equality of Opportunity, said:

"I am deeply concerned that three areas in Denbighshire are in the top ten of the most deprived areas in Wales. The Assembly Government has trumpeted their flagship Communities First scheme for seven years now and it is clear in some areas it is just not working. The Assembly Government has been allowed enough time to expect to see considerable improvements in Community First areas and as this is not the case in some areas it leads me to question whether all the money is being spent correctly."
