NEWI becomes Glyndwr University

By order of the Privy Council NEWI received Taught Degree Awarding Powers on 2nd July 2008. Also, by order of the Privy Council 'The North Wales Institute of Higher Education Corporation' became Glyndwr University/ Prifysgol Glyndwr, on 3rd July 2008.

The above were posted to the Chairman of the Board of Governors by the Deputy Clerk of the Privy Council on 4th July 2008.

Welsh Liberal Democrat for North Wales and spokesperson for Children and Young People, Eleanor Burnham Am, said: "Congratulations to Professor Mike Scott and his staff at Wrexham's Glyndwr University.

"As a Wrexham born AM I'm absolutely delighted and look forward to their future growth and development in the life and community of Wales."

Eleanor Burnham AM will be attending the official announcement of the University Title at Glyndwr University, Wrexham on 18th July 2008. The announcement will be made by the First Minister, Welsh Assembly Government, the Rt Hon Rhodri Morgan, PC AT 10am. It will be followed by a celebration for Governors, Staff and guests in the University Quadrangle, weather permitting.
