Eleanor Burnham wants to improve life for people with Parkinson's

Parkinson's UK - the support and research charity - has met with Welsh Assembly Members at the Senedd, Cardiff to hear about the challenges faced by people with Parkinson's in Wales.

Eleanor Burnham AM, met new Country Manager for Wales, Aileen Napier, and spoke to local people with Parkinson's about the problems faced day-to-day by people living with the condition, such as the lack of specialist nurses.

Eileen Burnham said: "After talking to Aileen Napier and the staff from Parkinson's UK, and meeting people living with Parkinson's, I can now see some of the problems faced by carers and people with Parkinson's.

"I want to do everything in my power to make sure people affected by Parkinson's in Wales have all the support they need"

Aileen Napier, Country Manager for Wales at Parkinson's UK, said: "People with Parkinson's can get a raw deal, and too many people can't get the support, services or treatment they need to manage their condition. To remedy this, we need more Parkinson's nurses in Wales to make sure everyone affected by Parkinson's can access the specialist support they need.

"We want as many Welsh Assembly Members as possible to understand this, so they can highlight the issues that we've raised in the Welsh Assembly to improve life for everyone with Parkinson's."

For information and support call the Parkinson's UK free confidential helpline on 0808 800 0303 or visit parkinsons.org.uk.

Parkinson's UK is the new name for the Parkinson's Disease Society of the United Kingdom.
