Eleanor Burnham focuses on eye health for National Eye Health Week

As part of activity surrounding National Eye Health Week, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member, Eleanor Burnham was delighted to visit John Smith's Family Opticians optometric practice in Mold.

Commenting Eleanor Burnham said " I was delighted to meet John Smith and his team to create awareness of National Eye Health Week and to encourage as many people as possible to keep having regular eye examinations."

She continued " Regular eye examinations are an important health check-up and can play a vital role part in the detection of various health conditions ranging from glaucoma to potential brain tumours."

John Smith said 'Sight is the sense that people fear losing most, yet many of us don't know the best way to look after our eyes. National Eye Health Week aims to change all that.

'With more than half of all sight loss in the UK being recognised as avoidable, I am delighted that Optometry Wales has launched an education campaign designed to make people take their eye health seriously and we are pleased to be involved to do what we can to improve eye health.'

The Vision Matters website features lifestyle and health advice for looking after your eyes as well as what to expect as part of a sight test. It also provides a listing of awareness events that are being staged across the country and as well as provide information on NHS entitlements for sight tests and assistance with the cost of glasses or contact lenses.
